Grammar Question

So Bloggers, we were asked to pose a grammar question and then find and/or link to the answer.

Q. How does one know when to use and not use a semi-colon and colon? What are the rules?

A. I found a very good website with a great explanation and some examples for each case. Basically, a colon is used to introduce a list of items or a definition whereas a semi-colon is used to join two idependent clauses. For more in-depth information and some examples check out the following website-http://web2.uvcs.uvic.ca/elc/studyzone/410/grammar/colons.htm .
